The 10 most authentic tapas restaurants in Palma

written by Xisco Mateu / June 19, 2018

Tapas are, together with paella, the quintessential dish of Spanish cuisine. Palma, has a historical tradition of tapas with its mythical “variat” (several different tapas mixed in the same plate). During the 90s the tapas tradition of the city decreased a lot, but in the last 10 years it has recovered.

Going out for tapas in Palma is one of the best options to discover the authentic Mallorcan gastronomy. Furthermore, if you are staying in a boutique hotel in the Palma old town, enjoying "tapas" will help you discover the most charming corners of the city.

In the following we present our top 10 tapas bars and restaurants in Palma:

1.Can Joan Frau

Great Spanish chefs take the opportunity to go to this stand of the Mercat de Santa Catalina to “berenar” (snack). Classic tapas and a lot of market atmosphere. Finding a place to sit in the interior is an achievement that the Mallorcan people put on their curriculum. Open only during market hours. http://www.mercatdesantacatalina.com/bar-joan-frau.html

2.Bar España

A classic that resisted the decrease of the tapas tradition in Palma. Very nice location, good atmosphere, tapas and pintxos with a modern touch and craft beers, a luxury! It opens at night and on Fridays and Saturdays at noon. It can be reserved. https://www.facebook.com/barespanyapalma/

3.Bar Rita

It's not exactly a tapas bar, but it makes the best llonguets (typical bread roll from the city of Palma) in the whole city and its terrace, in Plaza Llorenç Bisbal , is the most authentic one in the whole the city during summer. Open at night. https://www.facebook.com/ritabar13/

4.Bodega La Rambla

The most classic tapas bar. It has changed its location to a better place in La Rambla and continues to make the best “variats” of the city in a very nice place. Open midday and at night. http://bodegalarambla.com

5.Bar d'es Peix

This stand is located in the fish area of the Mercat de l'Olivar and makes a magnificent fried fish and amazingly tasty tapas. A jewel that is not well known among citizens and is worth trying. Open during market hours. https://www.facebook.com/Bar-del-Peix

6.Bosch Bar

The terrace-bar par excellence in the city of Palma. It incorporated the “variat” to its menu a few years ago. Some people consider it a bar for tourists, but its mythical llagostes (sandwich made with llonguet) could not be missing from our list. It is located in Pza. Joan Carles I. Open midday and at evenings. http://barbosch.es
